This is one of the best games we’ve seen in a while. They took a 5 gallon bucket, and cut holes in it 4 four teams, and the teams had to shoot q-tips into their hole as the bucket spun and moved up and down. There were 4 teams, and the teams all started with the same number of q-tips, and as they ran out, they picked them up off the floor and shot them in the goal. At the end of the time (3 mins or so) the team with the most q-tips in their hole won. The inside of the bucket also had dividers so that you could tell which hole the q-tip went in (see photos below). One major rule that needs to be communicated at the beginning is that you’re not allowed to throw q-tips in the bucket.

Here is how to make the goal:

Step 1 – Cut a 5″ hole in the side of the bucket. I used a razor blade, but a power sawzall might work better.

Step 2 – Use the piece you cut out to trace the other 3 holes on the goal. Start on the opposite side of the first hole, so you can line it up on the exact opposite side. Then cut the other ones on each side.

Step 3 – Using plastic board, or poster board, cut two pieces to fit inside the bucket. They should be as close to the height and width of the inside of the bucket as possible. Then, cut slits that go half way through to the middle of the board. On one board, start at the bottom. On the other, start at the top.

Step 4 – Slide the two slits together, so it looks like this.

Step 5 – Place the boards in to divide the bucket in to 4 separate compartments. Then use some tape to make sure no q-tips can slip under or around the dividers.

Step 6 – Spray paint the different sections so each team knows where it’s goal is.

Step 7 – Hang the bucket from the roof. We used string that ran through a couple eye loops, and over to the stage, so we could raise and lower the bucket like a piñata.

Just make sure you use a thick enough string, or else it will break like this…
